Affinity Water is the UK's largest water-only supplier, providing sustainable, high-quality water to 3.9 million customers. We’re looking for a Catchment Advisor to join us in delivering key elements of our AMP8 Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) programme, regulated by the Environment Agency. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of catchment management and protect drinking water supplies and the environment.
Our Catchment and Biodiversity team plays a crucial role in safeguarding the environment and ensuring a sustainable water supply for future generations. As part of our Water Resources and Environment department, the team leads the delivery of innovative catchment and nature-based solutions which protect precious chalk streams, works with farmers to improve soil health and deliver net gains in natural capital.
What you'll be doing
- Project manage the delivery of new and innovative land management-based catchment schemes, targeted nature-based solutions and gain experience of a diverse range of environmental projects
- Engage with agriculture and landowners through farm visits, workshops and training events to influence long-term, positive land management change which benefit soil health
- Work closely with our biodiversity and river restoration teams to ensure our catchment and nature-based solutions projects support our wider WINEP programme of works
- Undertake fieldwork to determine the benefits of projects e.g. water quality sampling and office-based analysis and interpretation such as cost benefit analysis
- Represent Affinity Water externally which will include giving public presentations, hosting events and communicating with our regulators and other key stakeholders
- Explore opportunities with land managers for carbon trading, Biodiversity Net Gain and the assessment of wider Natural Capital from our investments
What we’re looking for
- A degree (BA/BSc or equivalent) in an environmental or scientific discipline.
- A motivated team player who can also thrive independently.
- Strong project management experience and organisational skills (a qualification is desirable, but not essential)
- A confident communicator with experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship building.
- Experience using Geographical Information System (GIS) software, MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.

- Salary £30,000 - 40,000 per annum based on experience
- Hybrid role, with the expectations of a minimum two days a week in the office in Hatfield
