Taking care of your water
Customer Delivery
In our world, no two days are the same.

Customer Delivery is a really exciting and important part of our business. We’re a large team of around 420 people and together we are responsible for producing and distributing over 950 million litres of high quality drinking water every day to our 3.8 million customers while delivering exceptional customer service.
We work across three supply areas, from North London and the Home Counties, to Clacton in the East and Folkestone and Dover in the South East.

We’re made up of a number of different teams from Production, Capital Maintenance, Network, Supplier Performance and Integrated Control & Planning.
Our Production team is responsible for producing the water, so that’s abstracting it from the rivers and aquifers and treating it so it’s ready to drink. We have 94 treatment sites and over 600 production sites which all need looking after.
Once treated, the water is stored in storage assets – more than 160 across our patch - and our Capital Maintenance team is responsible for inspecting these reservoirs and water towers, cleaning and maintaining them regularly and carrying out any remedial works, so they are kept in top condition.

The water is then distributed to our customers through our network – an astonishing 17,000km of pipework! From huge pipes over a metre wide, right down to smaller pipes that carry water into our customers’ homes. Our Customer Service Technicians and repair teams are responsible for operating and maintaining this huge network.
All of these teams are supported by our 24/7 control room, which is part of our Integrated Control & Planning team. The control room is responsible for making sure we’re producing enough water and moving it to the right places so we can meet the supply and demand for our water; while our Planning & Streetworks teams make sure we organise ourselves in the right way every day to deliver all the tasks we need to do to keep our sites running and planning and scheduling the work for our front line teams.

Before joining Affinity Water, I worked as a service technician for a company that manufactured and tested valves. Working for this company gave me transferable skills I’m able to use in my role at Affinity Water

I enjoy getting out and about, visiting all the different sites across the company, and working in a team that has very similar ideas on how we can get the best from the PLCs.
