Planning Engineer

Affinity Water are looking to recruit a Planning Engineer. The role will allow you to build, manage and communicate the schedule and drive the programme discussions with various stakeholders. You will play an extensive role in managing the successful delivery of large-scale investment programmes and its deliverables to time, cost, benefits, and risks through clear communication. It is a perfect opportunity for a project professional who is highly skilled in planning software alongside understanding of the projects/programmes lifecycle and is looking to take on more responsibilities/ unique responsibilities, and to play a crucial role in our Investment Programme Management (IPM) team.
The IPM team is responsible for managing Affinity Water’s Capex investment portfolio, as set out in our regulatory Business Plan and statutory Water Resources Management Plan. The IPM team provides the necessary management information to support the Investment Committee and wider business in making decisions about the investment portfolio to optimise the balance between cost, risk and performance. They evaluate whether the company’s current and future asset investment plans are optimised by considering performance commitments, spend forecasts and programme critical paths to ensure effective prioritisation across the AMP. Our Cost Intelligence Strategy model focuses on costs understanding throughout our project life cycles for risk assessment, benchmarking, portfolio optimisation, value management, benefits realisation and to facilitate estimating by others.
Principal accountabilities
• Produce high level and 1, 3, 6 months look ahead from P6 for reporting.
• Regularly monitor and communicate any possible project issues that could delay the schedule.
• Develop and maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships across multidisciplinary teams and other project Stakeholders, both internal and external.
• Offer hands-on Planning and P6 advice when needed to Project and Programme managers in building schedules for all AMP8 projects.
• Support the long-term success of Planning performance and the overall contribution to the broader company goals.
• Reviews and captures productivity to measure progress.
• Ensures Health and Safety through programme integration.
• Ensure the specific projects programme is developed and regularly updated throughout the lifecycle of the project using P6 and other software.
• Ensure constructability and planning reviews are carried out in timely manner.
• Ensure programme change is managed effectively on the project and follow company quality management processes for the governance management of change.
• Monitoring and pro-actively managing all project programmes when needed.
• Support the preparation of presentation materials for the performance updates with particular focus on Investment Programme schedules.
• Liaise with the different stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle to ensure adherence to the stage gates processes.
• Support your project team and provide an environment to share knowledge and experience.
Experience required
- Experience in implementation of planning principles within the project management community.
- Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6. (Advanced Level)
- Strong working knowledge of Excel use (Advanced Level).
- Previous experience in Cost, Planning and Risk management environments.
- Ideally Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or be willing to work towards an appropriate professional body membership or equivalent.
- Experience of working on large projects/programmes.
- Have experience working in construction or project management background within utility sector.
- Experience of working with large range of stakeholders.
- Experience in management of large data sets into simple reporting formats.

- Salary £55,000 - 60,000 per annum - dependant on experience
- Hybrid role, with the expectations of a minimum two days a week in the office in Hatfield
