Discover a Day in the Life of a Production Engineer
As we search for the perfect fit for a Production Engineer, we wanted to offer a glimpse into what this exciting role entails.
Who better to explain the day-to-day experience than someone already thriving in the role? Brandon, one of our experienced Production Engineers, shares his perspective on the role and what joining the team might be like.

What does an average day look like for you?
Each day can be different, depending on the stage of a project. One day, I might be on-site working with contractors on construction or commissioning, and the next, I could be investigating a site issue or working on concept designs — or anything in between!
In the mornings, I often start by meeting contractors and arranging isolations before heading back to my desk to plan future work and develop technical solutions.
What's the most challenging part of your role?
Arranging work that requires plant downtime can be tricky. We have to keep the water flowing for our customers, so we try to combine multiple initiatives at the same time to minimise outages while carrying out essential work.
There are lots of moving parts, so it takes a lot of effort before, during, and after to ensure everything starts and finishes on time and the work is done correctly.
What's the most rewarding part of your role?
It's great to see a new plant in service; if a project makes it easier and safer to treat our water, it's always satisfying.
What makes working on a Production Team so great?
The skills and experience I’m gaining at Affinity Water are helping me work towards chartership with the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the Engineering Council. The company is supporting me in reaching this goal, which is helping me grow in my career.
