Affinity Water are looking for a Automation Test Engineer to join our Technology & Transformation Team in Hatfield.
The Role:
As a Automation Test Engineer, you will join our Test team working on a significant customer transformation programme in the water/utility sector. The programme involves digitalising core customer systems including CIS, billing platforms, and customer-facing digital channels. With quality assurance central to its success.
What you'll be doing:
Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright and JavaScript/TypeScript for end-to-end, regression, and functional scenarios.
Build reusable, modular test components; maintain and adapt existing regression suites as the application evolves, managing source control via Bitbucket.
Automate end-to-end customer lifecycle journeys including account set-up, service transfers, billing runs, payment processing, and debt management.
Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket Pipelines) for fast, reliable feedback; triage failures, maintain healthy regression suites, and prepare clear test/defect reports for technical and non-technical stakeholders; log and track defects in JIRA.
Collaborate with developers, BA’s, product owners, and architects to translate requirements into risk-based test scenarios; participate in Agile ceremonies; document frameworks and best practices; champion shift-left testing and quality culture across the programme.
What you'll need:
Proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript producing clean, well-structured and maintainable test code.
Experience with Selenium WebDriver IO, Playwright, or Cypress automation frameworks.
Experience with BrowserStack's Cross Browser, App Testing, and Automate features.
Demonstrated ability to write automated scripts from scratch and maintain existing test suites, including adapting scripts to application changes.
ISTQB Foundation Certificate or equivalent.
ISTQB Test Automation Engineer.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.

Salary: £49,000 - £55,000 dependant on skills and experience
Hours: 08:30am - 17:00pm (Mon - Thurs) 08:30am - 16:30pm (Friday)
